For the first year (through August 2024) of our contract with Top Hat we have dedicated migration support for instructors coming from other polling systems. The migration process starts with a meeting between an instructor and Top Hat, to discuss how you currently use polling in your course and view some of your content. From there, Top Hat's team will re-build your content, while checking in with you to make sure you're satisfied with the end-result. What are Clickers?
Clickers are a student response polling solution that allows instructors to pose questions and gather students' responses during a lecture. At the University of Arizona, the current campus supported solution is called PointSolutions (by Echo360) . The different student response options are a physical "clicker" device (model QT2 or QT) or the PointSolutions mobile app. Faculty have the option of allowing students to use a physical clicker device and/or the mobile app.
Review section 1 below - To register your clicker properly to use in class if you already have an existing physical clicker device but it is not registered.
Review section 2 below - If you only plan to use the mobile app as it will just require you to purchase a subscription license and not the clicker.

If you decide to try and use a clicker model other than the ones listed above and you have issues you will need to contact Echo360 PointSolutions support directly at 1-877-ECHO360 x2. The clicker support staff on campus will only provide support to clickers listed above, however, support for ALL physical clicker devices will end after the Fall 2023 semester.

Note: If you have a physical clicker you MUST get it properly registered and have an active license subscription to receive credit for using it in your courses.
1. Clicker Instructions: I'm choosing to use a physical QT2/QT clicker
View purchase and registration instructions for use of the QT2 or QT clicker.
Note: For Fall 2023 semester and beyond, we do NOT recommend you purchase a physical clicker device. Support for physical device use on campus will end after the Fall 2023 semester.
You have chosen or your instructor has required the use of a physical clicker device in class. The below sections will walk you through how to purchase and properly register your QT2 clicker. Keep in mind your purchase of a QT2 clicker from the UA Bookstore or from Echo360 PointSolutions will come with a 5-year subscription license. Once you have registered that license to your PointSolutions student account you will be able to use either your physical QT2 clicker in class or the PointSolutions mobile app (if your instructor allows use of mobile app).
How to Purchase a QT2 Clicker

There are two recommended ways you can go about purchasing a clicker to use on the UA campus.
- Purchase from UA Bookstore - cost approximately $75-80 (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FALL 2023 SEMESTER)
- This is the easiest and suggested option. The clicker will come with a 5-year subscription license (subscription code on card attached to device) with the ability to respond with any web-enabled device via the PointSolutions mobile app. (Use of mobile app is at the discretion of the instructor)
- You can use your Bursar's account and are able to use financial aid to help pay for the clicker if necessary and will receive the clicker immediately upon purchase.
- This is the easiest and suggested option. The clicker will come with a 5-year subscription license (subscription code on card attached to device) with the ability to respond with any web-enabled device via the PointSolutions mobile app. (Use of mobile app is at the discretion of the instructor)
Note: After purchase, upon removing clicker from it's packaging a card will be attached to the clicker that has the Subscription Code written on it. DO NOT lose or throw away this card as you will need it to properly register the clicker and subscription. Instructions for that are below in the "How to Register Your QT2 Clicker" section.
- Purchase Online from Echo360 PointSolutions Store - cost $59 + shipping (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FALL 2023 SEMESTER)
- Go to https://store.turningtechnologies.com/#/participant. If you don't have a PointSolutions account it will prompt you to create an account with your UA email address. The QT2 clicker will come with a 5-year subscription license with the ability to respond with any web-enabled device via the mobile app. (Use of mobile app is at the discretion of the instructor)
- You are NOT able to use financial aid to help pay for the clicker.
- You will be required to use a debit/credit card to purchase and will have to wait until it is shipped to you to receive the clicker. Shipping can take between 4-5 days.
You could also borrow a clicker from a friend or another student who is no longer using their clicker. This will still require the purchase of a subscription license from the Echo360 PointSolutions online store. If you are sharing a clicker with another student keep in mind that you cannot use the same clicker if you are both in the same class.
Note: If you purchase or borrow a clicker you MUST get it properly registered to your PointSolutions account to receive credit for using it in your courses.
How to Register Your QT2 Clicker
Learn how to properly register your QT2 clicker for successful use in class.
Once you have purchased your clicker you need to get it properly registered to be able to receive credit for using it in your classes. There are (3) three main tasks you need to complete to get your clicker registered successfully (Subscription, Response Device, LMS).
If you are a new student, just purchased your clicker, and have never created a Echo360 PointSolutions account before follow the below steps.
- Log in to D2L using your NetID and Password. (http://d2l.arizona.edu)
- Select the course you want to enter under My Courses.
- Click on UA Tools on the navbar, and select Clickers from the drop-down menu. Some courses, specifically within Eller college, may not have the UA Tools option on the navbar. If that is the case, contact your instructor or Eller IT staff to find out where the "Clickers" link is located within your course.
- You will then be redirected to the Echo360 PointSolutions website, and will need to create an account if you don't already have one with your University of Arizona email address. The necessary information (such as your email, first name, last name, role) is pre-populated. Choose the correct country in the Country dropdown menu. Click on the End User License Agreement check box.
- Click the Continue button.
- Click the Let's get started button. It will then walk you through step-by-step entering in a subscription code, your clicker ID, and making sure you are connected to the Brightspace LMS.
- Enter in your subscription code. If you purchased from the UA Bookstore this code is on the card that was included in the box that your clicker came in. (Optionally, if you don't have a subscription and need to purchase one, select one of the subscription options to purchase on the right hand side of the screen.)
Click the Next button in lower right corner.
- Enter in your Clicker Code. It is a 6-digit code located on the back of your clicker. (NOTE: If you won't be using a clicker and will just be using the PointSolutions mobile app, you can choose the "Only use mobile device option" on right hand side.)
Click the Next button in lower right corner. - If you by chance chose to purchase a subscription from the previous subscription screen the next steps would be to go through the billing, shipping, and payment screens to purchase that subscription. We won't show those here as what you purchased from the UA bookstore included a subscription so shouldn't be necessary.
- The next screen verifies that your PointSolutions student account is connected to Brightspace (D2L). Having your account connected to Brightspace (D2L) allows your instructor to send clicker grades to D2L.
Click the Next button in the lower right corner. - Click the Finish button in the lower right corner.
2. Mobile Instructions: I'm choosing to use the PointSolutions mobile app

You have chosen and your instructor has allowed the use of the PointSolutions mobile app. The below sections will walk you through how to download the mobile app on your mobile device as well as how to purchase a subscription license for your PointSolutions account. To respond to polls with the PointSolutions mobile app it does require you to have an active subscription license applied to your PointSolutions account.

- On your iOS device, tap the App Store icon.
- Search for "PointSolutions".
- The app icon will look like the below logo.
- Tap the Get button to install the app on your device.
- Once installed, tap the PointSolutions app icon on your device to open up the app.
- Sign in with your PointSolutions student account using your UA email address.
Install PointSolutions App for Android
- On your Android device, tap the Google Play Store icon.
- Search for "PointSolutions".
- The app icon will look like the below logo.
- Tap the Install button to install the app on your device.
- Once installed, tap the PointSolutions app icon on your device to open up the app.
- Sign in with your PointSolutions student account using your UA email address.
Purchase Subscription License for PointSolutions Account
Learn how to purchase a subscription license so you can use the PointSolutions mobile app in class.
The below instructions will walk you through how to create a student PointSolutions account and purchase a PointSolutions subscription license. If you already have a student PointSolutions account then see section 3 "Check Status of Registration" to see how to purchase a subscription license from your profile page.

Click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Select the option for "Only use mobile device". Click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Review your cart to verify your order and click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Enter in all of your billing and shipping information and click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Choose your delivery option. For subscriptions, just choose electronic delivery. Subscriptions do not get shipped. They get automatically applied to your PointSolutions account. Click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Verify your order, billing, and shipping address and click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Enter in your credit card information and select the Pay button.
- Confirm your order on the order confirmation page and click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- If you are connected to your Learning Management System (LMS) you will see a green checkmark. If you do not see a green checkmark, click connect to authorize. Click the Next button in the lower right corner.
- Click the Finish button in the lower right corner.
3. Check Status of Registration and Subscription
Learn how to frequently check the status of your clicker registration and subscription status.
If before every school year you want to check the status of your clicker registration to ensure that it will work for the classes you will take that year please follow the steps below.
- Please access the course that is using clickers by logging on to http://d2l.arizona.edu with your NetID and Password.
- Select the course you want to enter under My Courses.
- Click on UA Tools on the navbar, and select Clickers from the drop-down menu. Some courses, specifically within Eller college, may not have the UA Tools option on the navbar. If that is the case, contact your instructor or Eller IT staff to find out where the "Clickers" link is located within your course.
- Click on the Profile icon in the upper right corner and select Profile.
- Verify that you have a green checkmark next to each category (Subscriptions, Response Devices, Learning Management System) on your PointSolutions account profile.
If you don't have a green checkmark next to Subscriptions it is because you don't have an active subscription. It could be that your previous subscription has expired or you haven't yet entered in a subscription code if you recently bought your clicker from the UA Bookstore. If you have a subscription code to enter you can enter it in the box that says "Add or Purchase a Subscription" and enter in the code in the provided box and click Save. If you don't have a subscription code you will need to purchase a new subscription by clicking on the Go Purchase a Subscription button. For Fall 2023 semester we recommend students purchase a 1-Term Subscription. In the Spring 2024 semester and beyond the university will be covering student polling costs through an enterprise campus polling solution.
If you don't have a green checkmark next to Response Devices and will be using a physical clicker, that means you haven't entered in a Clicker ID. To add your clicker ID click Add or Purchase a Clicker. Locate the Clicker ID on the back of your clicker and enter that in the provided field that says "Clicker ID" and click Save. Verify that the Clicker ID listed here is the same as the clicker you intend to use in your classes. (NOTE: If you are just going to use the PointSolutions mobile app and won't be using a clicker you may not have a green checkmark for this category and don't need one since you won't be using a physical clicker device.)
If you don't have a checkmark next to Learning Management System then completely exit out of your browser. Open up a new browser window and go to http://d2l.arizona.edu and log in with your UA NetID and Password. Then access your course and click on the UA Tools menu and choose Clickers. You then should have a green checkmark next to the Learning Management Systems category.
- If you have green check marks next to each category then you should be ready to use your clicker! Just remember to always bring your clicker device to class!
4. Respond to Polls via Mobile App or Web Browser
Learn how to respond to polls using the PointSolutions mobile app or web browser.
Before you can successfully respond to polls in class and receive credit for responding you will need to make sure you have an established PointSolutions student account as well as have purchased a subscription license. Please follow the instructions in section 2 or 3 above to learn how to create an account and purchase a subscription license.
Using the PointSolutions Mobile App to Respond to Poll Questions in Class
If you haven't downloaded the PointSolutions mobile app please do so following the instructions in section 2 on this page.
- Open up the PointSolutions mobile app on your mobile device.
- The first screen you see should prompt you to sign in. Tap the Sign In button.
- Enter in your UA email address (e.g. johndoe@arizona.edu) and tap the Next button.
- It should take you to the UA WebAuth screen to enter in your UA NetID and password. Tap the Login button.
- Complete the NetID+ Duo mobile two factor authentication process.
- Once you are signed in the main screen should be asking you for a "Session ID". Your instructor will provide you with the appropriate mobile session ID for your particular class. Once you know the class mobile session ID enter it in the Session ID field and tap the Join Session button.
- You may see a "Please Wait" screen until the instructor gets their presentation into slideshow mode OR they get to a slide that has an actual poll question on it.
- When a poll question is opened you will see response options on your device. For multiple choice and true/false type questions you will see buttons for A, B, C, D, etc. Tap one of those response button options and it will show that your response has been received.
- When a poll question has been closed by the instructor you will see a graph or chart of the results display along with what answer you responded with.
Using the PointSolutions Web Browser to Respond to Poll Questions in Class
- Within an internet browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) go to https://d2l.arizona.edu and sign in with your UA NetID and password.
- Access the course that is utilizing polling.
- Once inside that D2L course click on the UA Tools menu and choose Clickers.
- The first screen you should see should be a prompt asking you for a "Session ID". Your instructor will provide you with the appropriate mobile session ID for your particular class. Once you know the class mobile session ID enter it in the Session ID field and select the Join Session button.
- Once you have joined the session you may see a "Please Wait" screen until the instructor gets their presentation into slideshow mode OR they get to a slide that has an actual poll question on it.
- When a poll question is opened you will see response options in your browser window at the bottom. For multiple choice and true/false type questions you will see buttons for A, B, C, D, etc. Select one of those response button options and it will show that your response has been received.
- When a poll question has been closed by the instructor you will see a graph or chart of the results display along with what answer you responded with.
- For short answer question you will have a text entry box that you can type in and then select the Send icon to send your response.
