1. Access: Grade View
Manually grade quizzes in the Grade view. This is how you get there.
- Click the Quizzes tab in the course navbar.
- Click the caret to open the quiz's Action menu.
- Select Grade.
- Use the sections below to learn how to grade by users, attempts, or question.
2. Grade: By Users
This option organizes quizzes by student, so you can grade one student's quiz at a time.
- Make sure you are on the Users tab.
- Use the View By field if you want to limit the quizzes that appear to a particular section or group in your course, and click the Apply button.
- Click the Attempt # beneath a student's name to open their quiz attempt.
- You will arrive at the Grade Attempt page.
- Enter the points earned in the Score field beneath each question.
- The Final Score will update. You can also override the final calculation by entering a score in this field.
- Add any comments in the Attempt Feedback box. Comments appear in the gradebook when the quiz is published.
- Click Publish (visible to students) or Save Draft (invisible to students).
3. Grade: By Attempts
Attempts refers to a student's completed quiz. This view organizes quizzes by Attempts.
- Make sure you are on the Attempts tab.
- Use the View By field if you want to limit the quizzes that appear to a particular section or group in your course, and click the Apply button.
- Click the Attempt # beneath a student's name to open their quiz attempt.
- You will arrive at the Grade Attempt page.
- Enter the points earned in the Score field beneath each question.
- The Final Score will update. You can also override the final calculation by entering a score in this field.
- Add any comments in the Attempt Feedback box. Comments appear in the gradebook when the quiz is published.
- Click Publish (visible to students) or Save Draft (invisible to students).
4. Grade: By Questions
Grade all students' answers to a single quiz question. This option allows for anonymous grading.
- Make sure you are on the Questions tab.
- Make sure the Grade Individual Responses option is selected.
- Select Anonymous Marking if you want to grade students' responses without their names visible. This can facilitate impartial grading.
- Click on the question you want to grade.
- Type the points awarded in the Score field.
- Click Save and Continue to save this grade and move to the next participant.
- You can also move between participants using the navigation pane at the top of the page.
5. Filter: By Status
This option organizes the Users or Attempts tabs by evaluation status. Available status filters:
- Published evaluations: Evaluations are completed and published to students.
- Unpublished evaluations: Evaluations are saved as a draft but not yet published.
- Pending evaluations: Quiz questions need to be manually scored (such as Written response questions) before publishing to students. This status requires that the "Allow attempt to be set as graded immediately upon completion option" is unchecked.
- Navigate to either the Users or Attempts tab.
- Click on "Show Search Options".
- Choose from the available evaluation status filters.
- Click on the search icon.
