Instructor: Participate In Discussions

Compose a new message in a Discussion Topic.

1. In the Discussions List, click on the title of the Topic where you want to begin a new message.
2. Click the Start a New Thread button.

    

3. Enter a subject for your message in the subject field.
4. Enter your message using the HTML editor field.  
5. Check the Pin thread box if you want your message to remain at the top of the Topic regardless of any new messages posted.

6. Insert media into your post (e.g., Video Note, Panopto) using the "Insert Stuff" icon in the HTML editor.
7. Insert a link (e.g., to an external webpage, file,YouTube video, etc.) using the "Insert link" icon.
8. Add images to your post using the "Insert Image" icon.
9. Use the Add attachments area to attach files or record an audio or video message that will appear with your post. Click on Add attachments if necessary to view buttons to Upload, Record or Choose Existing files.​
10. The name of the Topic to which you are posting will be listed next to Post to. If you want to post to multiple Topics in the course simultaneously, click Post to other topics and click Add topics. Check the box next to any Topics where you'd like this post to appear and click Add topics. The names of any Topics you selected will now appear.
11. Click the Post button to post your message to the thread.

Reply to an existing message or Thread.

1. In the Discussions List click on the title of the Topic where you want to reply.
2. Click on the subject of the post you want to reply to.

    

3. Click the Reply to Thread button.
4. Enter a subject for your reply in the subject field.
5. Enter your message using the HTML editor field.
6. Use the Insert Stuff, Insert Image, Insert Link, and Other Insert Options icons to embed media directly in your post.
7. Click on the Add attachments link to attach files or record an audio or video message as part of your reply.
8. Click the Post button to post your reply to the thread.
