D2L Community: Enroll Students

Only the D2L Consulting Team can enroll participants into D2L Community course sites.

Note: Please ask participants if they have a NetID. If they do, use their UA NetID as their username when enrolling.

1. About: Enrollment Process

Facilitators initiate the enrollment process by preparing a bulk enrollment file.

  1. Locate the bulk enrollment file template in the Prepare: Bulk Enrollment File section of this page (below). 
  2. Fill out the required information and send the prepared .CSV file to the D2L Consulting Team via this webform.
  3. The D2L Consulting Team processes the file. They may alert you of formatting errors that prevent enrollment of participants.
  4. The D2L Consulting Team will send a confirmation receipt after the file has been processed. 
  5. After receiving confirmation, contact participants to provide initial login and password reset instructions.

Note: All participants new to D2L Community are automatically enrolled in a general orientation course designed to familiarize them with D2L tools and navigation.

2. Prepare: Bulk Enrollment File

Prepare the bulk enrollment file. 

  1. Select an icon (below) to open a sample enrollment file in your preferred application.
    1. Click to open the Google Sheet Sample file                         Click to download the MS Excel Sample sheet
    2.  
  2. Locate the formatting instructions (within the file).
  3. Once the spreadsheet is complete, save it as a .CSV file.

    Saving From Google Sheets

    1. Select File.
    2. Hover over Download and choose Comma separated values (.csv, current sheet).

    Saving from MS Excel

    1. Select File, then Export.
    2. Select Change File Type.
      Click the change file type option
    3. Choose the CSV file option.
       Choose the CSV option
    4. Select the Save As button at the bottom of the screen.
      Click Save As to finish process
    5. Continue by saving the file as normal.

3. Submit: CSV File

Submit the .CSV enrollment file to the D2L Consulting Team for processing. 

  1. Submit the completed .CSV file to the D2L Consulting Team using this webform.
  2. Await confirmation that the file has been successfully processed. Requests are typically handled same day. Errors in formatting may result in delay.
  3. After receiving confirmation of enrollment, email participants to provide initial login and password reset instructions. 

Note: Only .CSV files can be used for bulk enrollment. For additional help preparing .CSV enrollment files, contact the D2L Consulting Team.

4. Contact: Participants

Tell enrolled participants how to access and login to the course.

Many participants are new to D2L Community and/or new to D2L, itself. Emailing participants to provide login and password reset instructions can prevent confusion.

For Participants with UA NetIDs

  1. Go to the D2L Community Site
  2. Select the University Login button and continue to sign in using the UA NetID Login portal.Choose University NetID
  3. Enter your NetID and password.
  4. Locate your course site under My Courses.
  5. Enter the course site by selecting its course tile.
  6. Select Content to dive into the materials or look for an Announcement that provides further instructions.

For Participants without UA NetIDs

  1. Go to the D2L Community Site
  2. Select Public Participants.
  3. If you have logged in previously, skip to Step 8.
  4. If this is your first time logging in, select Set your password.Click Set Password Link
  5. You will be send an email that contains a link to set the password. Locate the email in your inbox and set the password using the link.
  6. Return to the D2L Community Site
  7. Select the Public Participants button.
  8. In the Email Address field, enter your full email address. This is your username.
  9. In the Password field, enter your D2L Community password. 
  10. Locate your course site under My Courses.
  11. Enter the course site by selecting its course tile.
  12. Select Content to dive into the materials or look for an Announcement that provides further instructions.

Note: All participants new to D2L Community are automatically enrolled in a general orientation course designed to familiarize them with D2L tools and navigation.

5.  Modify: Remove Participants

Remove participants upon course completion. Prepare unenrollment files in the format specified. 

  1. Select an icon (below) to open a sample enrollment file in your preferred application.
    1. Click to open the Google Sheet Sample file Click to download the MS Excel Sample sheet

       

  2. Locate the formatting instructions (within the file).
  3. Once the spreadsheet is complete, save it as a .CSV file.

    Click File, hover over Download, then select Comma separated values (.csv, current sheet).

    1. Click File, then Export.
